In Kyara van Meel’s oil paintings she chooses to visualize chains of different images. Micro and macro worlds are interwoven; plants, fruits and romantic landscapes are the center of her inspiration. Van Meel’s work is about a visual connection between these subjects expressed in a more intuitive way. Her focus is placed on going back and forth between creating tension in forms of growing processes and creating a sense of space using light and dark contrasts, similar to what she finds intriguing in romantic landscapes. With this approach, an ambiguous quality appears, unsure of the size of life depicted. In consideration of her charcoal drawings, the simultaneous movements of both hands promote a different realization. During the process of automatic drawing with her body, the drawing works as an extension to what is reachable in the moment.
